BOARD RESOLUTION NO. 2024-04

MAES ROAD, OGEMAW TOWNSHIP, WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS
At a regular meeting of the Board of County Road Commissioners held at the Ogemaw County Road
Commission located at 1250 South M-33, West Branch, Michigan 48661, on July 17, 2024,
PRESENT: Chairman Dan Winter Commissioner Van Sheltrown and Commissioner Klint Marshall
ABSENT: None
Motion by Sheltrown, supported by Marshall to adopt the following Resolution Number 2024-04 which reads as
follows:

RECITALS

WHEREAS a portion of Maes Road (being 1.0 mile in length) located between sections 12 and 13, Ogemaw
Township, is in very poor condition such that significant damage will occur if semi-trailers, tractor trailers or
similar trucks weighing more than 30 tons continue to drive on the surface of said section of road;
WHEREAS the Ogemaw County Road Commission maintains and will continue to maintain the 1.0 mile length
of Maes Road, located in between sections 12 and 13, Ogemaw Township;
WHEREAS the Ogemaw County Road Commission has authority under MCL 257.726 to prohibit the operation
of trucks or other commercial vehicles on designated highways or streets, and to impose limitations as to the
weight of trucks or other commercial vehicles on designated highways or streets, or to provide that only certain
highways or streets may be used by trucks or other commercial vehicles; and
WHEREAS the 1.0 mile length of Maes Road has been rated as “poor” such that it is prudent and proper action
on the part of the Ogemaw County Road Commission to close that 1.0 mile length of road to the operation of
trucks;

RESOLUTION

NOW THEREFORE, pursuant to the powers granted to Ogemaw County Road Commission under MCL
257.726 the portion of Maes Road, being 1.0 mile in length, located in Sections 12 and 13, Ogemaw Township,
Ogemaw County, Michigan, shall henceforth until further notice by the Ogemaw County Road Commission, be
closed to all trucks weighing over 30 tons.
IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED that the Ogemaw County Road Commission shall place appropriate signage on
the portion of the road so closed to the trucks pursuant to and consistent with the requirements of state law,
specifically MCL 257.608.
